about this karma thing...

So I've read the forum and rules and all but I'm still a little lost as to some basics. maybe I missed something but can you only get karma for posting content? I've been here for a while and where I want to contribute I haven't come up with anything new or worthwhile. But do I have to start or contribute specifically to get karma or can it come from replying or interacting as well?

Also, if this was specifically mentioned somewhere just let me know and I'll head back over there.
